How a Shepherd Motors remap works
A safe remap starts with a healthy engine. Half our job is what we do before we read your ECU.
Pre-map health check
We scan for live and pending fault codes, check fuelling adaptations, boost pressure under load, and confirm spark plugs / glow plugs / air filter are healthy. If something needs fixing first, we tell you.
ECU read & backup
We read your original calibration via OBD or bench (depending on ECU) and back it up. If you ever want it reversed, we put your factory file back exactly.
Custom file development
You get a calibration tuned to your car's state, fuel grade, and how you intend to use it — not a generic file shared with thousands of other vehicles.
Datalog & refine
We datalog under load and adjust injection, boost, lambda and timing maps until it's right. Safety first — full margin to detonation and EGT limits.
What we won't do.
Tuning is full of cowboys. We'd rather lose a job than do something we know is dodgy.
- No DPF, EGR, AdBlue or cat deletes. Illegal on the road, MOT failures, and frankly a recipe for sensor and turbo problems further down the line.
- No tunes on tired engines. If your engine has issues, we fix those first. Boosting a worn-out engine is how you turn it into shrapnel.
- No silly numbers. If a Stage 2 file needs hardware to be safe (intercooler, downpipe, clutch) we'll tell you up-front. We won't crank boost on a stock car 'just because'.

Is remapping safe for my engine?
When done properly on a healthy engine with sensible targets, yes — engines are designed with a margin and a good map stays comfortably inside it. We always run a pre-map health check and a stress-test datalog afterwards.
Can it be reversed?
Yes. We back up your original file before doing anything. If you sell the car or want the factory tune back, we restore it exactly.
Will it pass an MOT?
Yes. We do not delete or disable emissions equipment, so your car will sail through the smoke / emissions test exactly as it would on its factory map.
Will it affect my warranty?
If you're still under manufacturer warranty, we'll have an honest conversation before doing anything. Most customers wait until the warranty's up. We'll never pretend it's invisible to the dealer — modern ECU writes leave a trail.
